Markem Financial Services, Inc. opened the first escrow agency in Pahrump Valley, on August 19, 1988. They commenced operations under the name Markem Escrow Agency. The original office was located at 41 E. Basin Road, and was initially staffed by the founder, Kim Woldehanna and two escrow assistants. Markem Escrow Agency provided a professional service that was greatly needed and much appreciated by the Pahrump community. The "mainstream" escrow and title companies had not seen fit to reach out and establish a presence in "that dusty farm town." They lacked confidence that any significant growth would occur in Pahrump. Kim’s perspective was different. He had been the first banker in Pahrump, opening and managing the Pahrump Branch of Valley Bank of Nevada and served in that capacity for 12 years, until 1988. Kim saw a community with a bedrock of decent, hard working families who he had assisted in financing their automobiles, homes, furniture, businesses, and even babies! He knew Pahrump as a community brimming with pride and unlimited potential. Markem Escrow Agency soon outgrew the original 600 square feet of rented space on Basin road. They expanded at location in 1992. Pahrump continued to grow, and so grew Markem Escrow. In 1996 Kim built a new home for Markem at 1161 S. Loop Road. Markem’s staff had tripled. But the growth spurt was not over. Within 18 months, the facility on S. Loop Road had to be expanded to 3200 square feet. Markem had become the communities first and now largest escrow agency and provided families and developers with local access to national title insurance companies, including the nations two largest - First American Title Insurance Company and Chicago Title. The increased volume and rapid technological advances also dictated an entire new computer system. In June of this year a state of the art computer network system was installed. Today, the friendly demand for additional services continues. In response, this summer Markem applied for and was granted a license as an underwritten title company by Nevada Division of Insurance, hence the name "Markem Title Company." Markem is underwritten by First American Title Insurance Company, one of the largest in the country. Markem’s physical expansion also continues. To better serve growing community it has opened a second office near the south central part of town. This office located at 2340 E. Calvada Boulevard will be doing business under the name of "Alliance Title Company of Nevada." It to will handle all types of title insurance and escrow needs, however, it will have a special emphasis on developer and commercial financing. This is part of Markem’s overall effort to provide tailor made services for increasingly diverse transactions. Markem has assembled the staff and developed the relationships that give it the capacity to deliver nationwide expertise and resources with local professionals who know Pahrump. |
